Religious Education

We are excited to share that our school is using the Kapow Primary scheme to deliver Religious Education. We believe this curriculum offers our pupils a rich, modern, and engaging way to explore the world’s different faiths as well as non-religious world-views.

Our Goal: We want our pupils to grow into informed, curious, and respectful citizens. We believe Kapow Primary provides pupils with a perfect toolkit to navigate our world full of different beliefs and ideas. At Cranford Park Academy, we strongly believe Kapow Primary is the best fit for our students for a number of reasons:

1. It Encourages "Big Thinking"

Instead of just memorising facts, Kapow uses an enquiry-based approach. Every unit starts with a "Big Question," such as "How do beliefs influence how people live?" or "What does it mean to belong?" This teaches children to think critically, weigh evidence, and form their own well-reasoned opinions. They investigate (look at evidence / traditions), evaluate (think about the impact on someone of faith, or also, no faith) and reflect.

2. A "Spiral" Way of Learning

Religion and philosophy are complex! Kapow uses a spiral curriculum, meaning children revisit key themes year after year. This means students don't just learn about a religion once and move on; they revisit core schemes of learning (like "Belonging" or "Sacred Places") with increasing depth each year. Each time they return to a topic, the complexity increases. This helps knowledge "stick" and ensures they have a deep, mature understanding of different cultures.

  • EYFS/KS1: Focuses on the "big stories" and basic symbols.
  • KS2: Moves into deeper theological questioning and the "why" behind the "what."

3. High-Quality Visuals and Storytelling

We know that children learn best when they are engaged. Kapow provides our teachers with beautiful videos, diverse stories, and interactive resources. This brings the subject to life, making it much more than just reading from a textbook.

4. Preparation for a Modern World

In an increasingly globalized world, understanding others is a vital life skill. Kapow focuses on respect and empathy. It doesn't tell children what to believe; instead, it provides them with the religious literacy they need to:

  • Understand the traditions of their neighbours.
  • Appreciate the diversity within our own communities.
  • Engage in respectful discussions about different beliefs.

5. Consistency across the School

Because the entire school uses the same framework, there is a seamless journey from Reception all the way through to Year 6. This ensures no gaps in learning and a smooth transition as your child moves through each year group.

This encourages deep thinking and allows learners to span the breadth of lots of different (including smaller, or well less known, as well as major) world religions. This helps to reflect the diverse nature of our school community here at Cranford Park Academy. This in turn allows for an expansive level of inclusivity within all of our classrooms.

Kapow is specifically designed to meet the requirements of Ofsted and various Locally Agreed Syllabuses.
