Centre for Excellence
Centre for Excellence in Performing Arts
Centre for Excellence comprises of three elements; drama, dance and music. The aim of our group is to equip children with the skills needed in order to put on a successful performance. This ranges from performances within school to the prestigious stage at the Beck Theatre. Firstly, children audition for a role. Once we have a team of young performing artists, we begin our weekly rehearsals. This includes teaching children acting, singing and dancing skills and strategies. We nurture children’s talents and provide them with tools to express themselves outside of the classroom through drama, dance and music.
Over the past few years, we have had the privilege of working with Shakespeare’s Schools Festival. As a team, we chose a play written by the renowned author and playwright - Shakespeare. In weekly sessions, we explore Shakespearean language and think about how the children can deliver lines effectively through drama, dance and music. Children are also invited to attend a workshop where they work collaboratively with the SSF team in order to build on the skills taught. Finally, the CPA cast perform at The Beck Theatre and we, as a school, have the privilege of watching our young professionals on stage deliver an outstanding performance!
